When we were little, I was always so envious of Rebecca’s birthday. How lucky she was to have a birthday on valentines day! Her parties were always the sweetest things…doilies, pink balloons, hearts everywhere. I LOVED it all. My birthday is in the middle of June, and having a swimming pool in our yard, my birthdays were always pool parties. DON’T GET ME WRONG. As a kid, there is almost nothing better than a pool party. But there was always something about Rebecca’s parties, so feminine and pretty…I was so envious.
Boston Latin starts in 7th grade, so there were 4 years where Rebecca and I were in high school together. In the weeks leading up to a few holidays, Valentines Day being one, you could buy carnations and have them delivered to anyone else in the school. I always sent them to Rebecca for her birthday (though I wonder now if it was mortifying to get flowers from your big sister), but I loved doing it. I wish someone would swing by my house and pick up some pink carnations for her today…
Happy Birthday, little sister.
(and big points to my sweet hubby who managed to pick up 6–YES, 6–Godiva chocolate dipped strawberries…even though the poor thing has the flu. THAT’S love.)
